Start Your Business with Success in Mind

One of the things most people don't understand when starting an online business is that they don't truly know how to effectively start a business.  They consistently fall prey to unscrupulous marketers, they often lack focus and many lose large sums of money simply because they don't know how to market online.

An internet business, just as with any business, requires a realistic approach, trusted training, networking and understanding what actually works and what might lead to failure.

That's the topic of my guest article written by a colleague of mine, Megan Vaillancourt of Myinternetbusiness.com.

Megan has created a successful internet mentoring site built on a few solid strategies that everyone should take a long hard look at.  They are what have brought Megan and her business from failure to success.   More… »

Is Duplicate Content Really a Bad Thing?

I happened to be making some updates to my Homenotion.com site the other day and while adjusting a few things I noticed I had made an error for which I had a number of pages with duplicate content.  Yikes!  I jumped on that and made sure I fixed those problems immediately.

But then I thought about what Google says.  Their guidelines state that my site could have potentially been removed from the Google index or my ranking could have suffered.  In which case neither happened.  My site still ranks on the first page of the natural results for all my best keywords.

So what does all this 'duplicate content' thing really mean?      More… »

Ezine Advertising Tips

It took me a long time to actually begin using ezine advertising for my business but once I begain cranking out ezine ads I soon came to realize that ezines are actually one of the most effective and affordable forms of website advertising for promoting your products and services and encouraging traffic to your web site.

The number of ezines published on the net has exploded from several hundred in 1996 to literally thousands of publications today that cover a range of topics so they're a pretty good form of advertising for any online business.

You can find ezines that sell ads for as little as $8 an ad, however solo ads generally pull the best resonse. Top sponsor ads on the other hand allow you between 5 and 8 lines of copy and are included in regular ezine issues near the very beginning of the newsletter.

Here's a breakdown of the ezine advertising options…   More… »

Your Website Structure Counts

One of the things that's important to the success of your website, but often overlooked, is your website's structure. Today the search engines place fairly hefty weight on how your site is laid out, what components are included and your content.

Tips for Writing a Captivating ‘About’ Page

There are some very key clues you can get from reading an individual's 'about' page.

For example, is the person genuine?  Are they interested in selling me something or are they going to offer me real help?  Are they qualified to help me?   What experience got them to where they are?  Will they keep me interested or bore me to tears?

Frankly, about 80% of the about pages put me to sleep.  That's probably because our instincts are to get down to business and sound professional.  Now there's noting wrong with sounding professional but we often sacrifice letting our readers know who we are by getting caught up in the technical, professional mumbo jumbo.

Here's what I'm talking about.  Mary Jane is an article ghostwriter and writes a bio that looks like this …. More… »
