See the nice little top spots box to the right? It's kind of a novel idea I picked up on called 'scratchback'.
I thought it would be fun for a couple of reasons. First of all who doesn't appreciate a 'tip' now and then, but what's really unique is that if you leave me a tip you scratch my back but I also scratch yours because you get a link back in return.
What's really neat about scratchback is you can choose to offer text links or image links. I choose text links which, by the way, are completely Google friendly and use the no-follow tag so you don't have to worry about losing pagerank for selling text links.
Scratchback is set up through Paypal so you need a Paypal account which is easy enough to set up, and you can set up your tips to whatever you like, minimum is $1. Scratchback is set up so that you get 90% of your tips and 10% goes to admin fees.
But the best part about Scratchback is it doesn't cost you a thing to set up and it's super easy to install. Fill in a few blanks, copy the code they give you to your site or blog and you're done!
I've always liked the idea of a tip jar but giving a little back to my readers at the same time is what I like. It also gives me a way to interact with readers beyond just getting comments. But what's even better is by offering a tip in the tip jar you also get a linkback to your site from mine.
I'm going to test this for a few weeks and see how much traffic I get from it. I currently have it set to $3 if you would like to try it out. You get to specify your URL, the anchor text for your link, and a message that your readers can view by hovering their mouse over your link.
Better yet try it for your site. If you do use it, leave a comment below and I'll make a visit to your site and check it out.
