But blogs, just as with any website, need lots of traffic.  Yes, blogs get a lot of search engines recognition because they are structured so well, but you're still going to have to do your part to get as much traffic as you can to your blog so promotion is still important.

Blogging is a Mistake?

Recently I've been following the buzz that Ken Evoy has generated with the article he sent out called:

"Why Blogging Is A Massive Mistake".

Just the title is enough to raise an eyebrow.

I don't think blogging is a mistake and I'm sure the millions of bloggers out there would agree.

If you read Ken's article, he makes some interesting points, but they are all debatable.

For example let's look at the 3 major flaws Ken points out with Blogging… More… »

Comment Kahuna — Good Blogging Tool?

I think so; it’s the spammers and the blog bullies that are bad.

As I was reading Dan Thies' comments on 'Comment Kahuna', it got me to thinking about this tool, which I do use on occasion …and it's free Smile

By the way, I just want to also say that I really like Dan Thies and I hang on his every word, in my opinion he's one of the best SEO guys around, and I love his "SEO Fast Start Guide", amazingly enough it's still free and if you don't have a copy – you're missing out!

Anyway, getting back to Comment Kahuna, I use it mostly because it helps me find relevant blogs that I can not only comment on but it also helps me find out what people are saying and what people are really looking for.  I don't always make comments, occasionally I do but unlike a lot of  'link focused' bloggers, I think that if it's worth my time to make a comment then I should actually try to contribute something, call me crazy!

So I like Comment Kahuna, it helps me find relevant blogs that I can intelligently contribute to. If there are people using it to spam blogs for their own personal gain then it's unfortunate.  Like I think Dan is saying — it's not Comment Kahuna that's bad, it's the people using it inappropriately that are bad.

Yes, Comment Kahuna does look specifically for blogs that use the 'nofollow tag', that may or may not be a bad thing and if your blog isn't using the 'nofollow tag' you are theoretically subject to more spamming, but that's what I have Askismet for and it does a pretty good job of nailing spammy comments.

I'm thinking that if someone takes the time to make a thought provoking useful comment to my blog why not pass them a follow link for their efforts and let Akismet take care of the spammers.

Blogging Trackbacks and How To Use Them

Trackbacks are an excellent way to initiate the sharing information with another website.

It's a great way for you to initiate a connection with another blogger instead of waiting for those bloggers to discover you.

But more importantly trackbacks can increase the awareness as well as the credibility of your blog.   After all, people have to think that your posts are good enough to be trackbacked.

Imagine if 5 different bloggers trackbacked a post on your blog.  Depending on how popular their blog is, that’s potentially as much as a hundred new readers for your blog! That's a lot of good traffic you may not otherwise get.  Nice, huh?     More… »

Scratchback: The New & Unique Tip Jar

See the nice little top spots box to the right?  It's kind of a novel idea I picked up on called 'scratchback'.  scratchback

I thought it would be fun for a couple of reasons.  First of all who doesn't appreciate a 'tip' now and then, but what's really unique is that if you leave me a tip you scratch my back but I also scratch yours because you get a link back in return.

Comment Kahuna

You probably know that one of the best ways of getting noticed online and bringing added traffic to your site is to make useful, intelligent comments in places like forums and blogs.  It's one of the better ways to gain recognition and generate traffic.

Making blog comments, in particular is one of my favorites but it can be very time consuming to find the right blogs.  For instance, you want to find relevant blogs, you want to find blogs that accept comments and you also want to find blogs that don't use the 'no follow' tag.

Ok, so what's a 'no follow' tag and why is it important?  More… »
