I never thought much about that statement until later on in my online career, but it's something you should really think about …the truth is, many online business owners make the mistake of ignoring it.
Why is it important? Because people buy when they are ready to buy, not when you are ready to sell.
But how do you know when someone is ready to buy? You don't! …and that's the thing, you want to present your product or service to your prospects but you can't really expect them to buy, they have to be ready to buy and you better be there when they are. After all, timing is everything.
That means you must follow-up with your prospects. Follow-up means keeping in touch with your prospects via email by providing useful tips, benefits and information on your products. Let them know how your product will benefit them but also provide them with information or tips that they will appreciate, not be annoyed with.
For example, I wrote and promote a C-section recovery guide. My c-section site captures email addresses of women who want a bit more information on the guide, so I provide them with more information and a few helpful tips with their sign-up. Now very few women purchase the guide sight unseen, they want more info. Even after receiving my tips and information emails they don't always buy. It's not often until they get towards the end of their pregnancy and begin worrying about the pain and how they can recovery quickly that that they consider a purchase. An email with my offer presented to them at this time is most likely when I'll make the sale. If I wasn't there, I may have lost out.
But it doesn't stop there; you also want to follow up with people that do eventually buy. Get in on up-sells and cross-sells and encourage feedback, it's called establishing a relationship with your customers and prospects.
Will you be there when your customers are ready to buy?
Here are a few tips to get you on the right track on how to follow-up with prospects and also how to build a list of prospects. Stop leaving money on the table and be that will stop you from leaving money on the table by putting time on your side and be there when your prospects are ready.
