Your content is one of the most valuable things your website or blog has, so adding new content or boosting the value of the content you already have should be high on your list of priorities.
Once of the mistakes many webmasters make when writing web content is they tend to get hung up on figuring out what the search engines are looking for and forget about how to write for real people. They go nuts with overusing keywords, repetition and things that simply bore and disinterest readers.
Don't get caught up in that strategy, the truth is that well written, quality content created for your readers is what actually makes the best search engine food. That's because search engines, particularly Google are now using what they call LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing. This is a fancy way of saying that the search engines are looking for keywords, their synonyms and other related words. While no one really knows what a search engine's algorithm is, we do know that built into it is the ability to determine whether or not your content has value to the visitor.
My Content Strategy …
When writing content or articles I start with a popular topic in my area of interest, write content based on the strategies outlined below, and then place them on the web in a gradual, consistent basis.
I use the Wordtracker method of finding topics of interest which means I type in my key topic in the search window and examine the sub-topics that come up. I use this keyword research method because these are the search terms being entered into the search engines so this is exactly the information people are looking for. I also find it helpful to precede or follow my keywords with phrases like:
'how to'
'help'
'ideas'
'remedy
'solution'
…etc.
The next step is to write content that is original, fresh and informative. I base this on providing genuine value for your readers. While writing your content or articles think about the person reading it, go the extra mile to impress them with facts, offer 'how to' strategies and unique information. Write as if you are speaking to your reader directly. Let your personality come through by adding comments or a little humor. Include real life experiences, personal stories or tips. All of this adds an element of genuineness, trust and most importantly, interest.
Once your article has been completed then, and only then, should you go back and make slight modifications to optimize it for the search engines, don't even think about search engine optimization until your content has been completed.
Create your content as a project. Compose 10-15 content items. These could be in the form of articles, guides, FAQ's, tutorials, whatever you wish. Once they are completed and optimized as instructed above, add one item to your website or blog each week on the same day. Blogging software such as Wordpress allows for scheduling of content so you can easily upload your items all at once and schedule them to go out automatically on dates you require.
If don't have the luxury of automation simply have the items ready to go and add one each day, it should only take a few minutes. Don’t; however shoot all the articles out at once, the search engines expect content to be added on a gradual, consistent basis.
Do this consistently for 2 weeks and you will begin to see your traffic increase, but what this will also do for you is condition the search engines to visit your site on a regular basis, in other words they will come to expect content from your site.
Keep in mind that the search engines are hungry and just as you get hungry they want to eat every day with the tastiest buffet of satisfying food, get some variety and enjoy what they eat. If you can meet their hunger requirements, they will gobble it up and you'll see lots more traffic in the process.
